Dustin Lance Black - Mama's Boy: A Story from Our Americas

Upcoming Event
Thursday, May 2, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Black’s many achievements include winning an Academy Award for writing the screenplay for Milk and helping to lead the fight to overturn California’s anti-gay marriage Proposition 8. In his stirring memoir he takes us behind the scenes, showing us his upbringing in a Mormon military household, and, most importantly, introducing the person who inspired him to fight: his mother. A true survivor, Anne contracted severe polio as a child but defied doctors’ expectations by having a family and a normal life. She also broke free of two abusive marriages and established herself in an independent career. When Black came out, though his sexuality ran counter to her religious beliefs, she chose to support him. He pays tribute in this moving account.
