Yousef Bashir - The Words of My Father: Love and Pain in Palestine

Upcoming Event
Monday, May 13, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Bashir, a writer, public speaker, and peace activist, grew up on a ten-acre farm in Gaza. Until he was eleven, his life revolved around school and soccer—but then came the Second Intifada. Bashir’s father, a highly respected teacher, refused to leave his land. When Israeli soldiers occupied his house, he treated them not as jailers but as honored guests. Watching his father’s unswerving devotion to peace, Bashir wondered if he could do the same. The answer has turned out to be a resounding “yes.” Shot by an Israeli soldier when he was 15, Bashir was healed by Israeli doctors; he spent a year in a wheelchair, learned to walk again, and, following his father’s lead, has become a tireless advocate for Israeli-Palestinian peace.
