Malcolm Tariq - Heed the Hollow: Poems — in conversation with Jamal Rashad — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf
Winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, Tariq’s first full-length collection of poems uses a variety of formal strategies—ranging from bops to erasures—to excavate lives “marked into the bottom / of history.” Reclaiming what has been written out of the official record, Tariq focuses on race and gender in the American South, considering both the physical and the spiritual aspects of a legacy of enslavement, examining the repression of queer desire, and giving voice to the lineage of trauma that surfaces as silence, pain, and memory but that also has the potential for love. Tariq will be in conversation with Jamal Rashad, a poetry and fiction editor for Love, Pain & Poetry Publishing.
