Julieta - Alice Munro

This slim volume is a triptych of stories from Munro's collection Runaway that has been adapted by Pedro Almodovar into the movie Julieta. Though Almodovar's adaptation is a feat of cinema, it can be said that, in this particular case, the adage "the book is better than the movie" rings true. Despite Almodovar's formidable skill as a filmmaker, he can never expect to match Munro's ability to write about the peculiarities of human connection and the sadness when those connections are severed. It seems that there is no human experience that Munro cannot write about, from death to love, and in these three stories her unparalleled ability is on full display.
