Politics & Prose Invites You to Experience Art, Light and Beauty on the French Azure Coast
March 1-7, 2024
Novelist Willa Cather visited New Mexico six times between 1912 and 1926, as she was enchanted by the desert Southwest. In 1925, while visiting Santa Fe she bought a biography of a French missionary priest and decided to write a novel based on Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy. She returned the following year to complete the research for the book, which was published in September 1927 as Death Comes for the Archbishop. Six months before she died, Cather called it her “best book.”

Join Politics & Prose on an exploration of this unique part of France, Périgord Nord in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, well known for its food specialties (truffles, walnuts, foie gras) and wines (Bruno loves wine!). A highlight of the trip will be spending time with Martin Walker. We’ll spend one whole day in “St. Denis,” tasting wines at Bruno’s favorite wine shop, and then going on to Martin’s house, where we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch while Martin pours us some favorite wines and regales us with stories about the region.
